Nobody Needed AI to Suggest Beer

Ask AI to “plan a guys trip” and you will get a generic city, a steakhouse, a brewery and a reminder to make lasting memories.

AI is useful when you give it the ugly part of the job: seven schedules, three budgets, two guys who never answer and a group chat that has somehow moved from cabin dates to ranking guitar solos.

Start with the mess

Paste in what you actually know:

• Who is going
• Where everyone is coming from
• Dates that work or absolutely do not
• Maximum drive time
• Real budget per person
• What the group wants to do
• What the group refuses to do
• Links and full prices for places you are considering

Then ask for a decision, not inspiration.

Here are the dates and constraints for seven guys. Find the two weekends that work for the most people. Show who misses each one. Do not suggest more dates.

That last sentence matters. AI loves giving you twelve choices when the group cannot choose between two, which is the same failure as asking everyone what weekend works.

Make it clean up the group chat

You can paste a long thread and ask:

Pull out every actual decision, every unanswered question and everything somebody volunteered to bring. Ignore jokes and side conversations unless they create a task.

Now you know who is bringing the griddle, who said he might bring cards, and that nobody has agreed to bring breakfast food despite discussing eggs for forty-five messages.

This may be the best use of AI in the entire process.

Give it real numbers

Do not ask what a cabin costs. Paste the checkout price.

Have it add lodging, taxes, cleaning fees, groceries, gas, parking, firewood and the activity. Then divide by the expected crew and again with one fewer guy.

The second number is the honest one, and it is the same reason the budget calculator shows you both.

AI is also good at turning the menu into a grocery list, separating shared gear from personal gear and checking whether every important item has an owner.

Have it argue with the plan

Once the trip looks finished, ask:

What is likely to go wrong with this plan? Look for bad timing, missing owners, tight connections, fake sleeping capacity, weather problems and anything that depends on the last car arriving on time.

You do not need another polished itinerary. You need something to notice that dinner, the cabin key and all the beer are in a vehicle arriving at 11:30 p.m.

Do not let it choose reality

AI can compare two cabins using details you paste. It cannot tell you the hot tub works.

Check the original source for:

• Current price and availability
• Cancellation terms
• Fishing or hunting rules
• Road, fire and weather restrictions
• Boat capacity
• Restaurant hours
• Whether “sleeps 10” means ten adult beds or four beds and a floor with ambition

That last one is exactly why counting real beds yourself is not a job to delegate.

Then use AI one last time to write the message:

Turn this into a group text. Keep it under 120 words. Include the dates, total cost, deposit, deadline and what happens next. No motivational language.

That is the job.

The trip still needs bad ideas, arguments over dinner and somebody who packed an object nobody requested. A computer should not be responsible for the story.
